Elbow played their biggest headline show to date last night (March 14), playing a triumphant show at the London Wembley Arena.

The Bury band took advantage of holding court to a huge crowd – recording them singing for a section that may be included on their next album.

Around halfway through the set frontman Guy Garvey got the crowd to sing, "Dear friends who I love so much more than you'll ever know", telling them that if it was good enough it would make the cut for their next record. "We're not paying you," he joked afterwards.

The move echoes the band's 2002 appearance at the Glastonbury festival, where they recorded the crowd singing a section of what would become the song 'Grace Under Pressure', which featured on their 2003 LP 'Cast Of Thousands'.

Earlier in the show the band were joined by Richard Hawley, who performed guitar and vocals on 'The Fix', as he does on the band's 2008 album 'The Seldom Seen Kid'. "Why are you clapping – I might be rubbish!" he joked as the crowd greeted him with cheers, before he led an enormous ovation for Elbow.

Before a three-song encore the show climaxed with 'One Day Like This', during which canons fired silver ticker tape into the crowd to dramatic effect (see picture above).
