Elbow thrill LA crowd despite losing their gear over the Atlantic Ocean Elbow Tickets

Mercury Prize winners precede Coldplay gigs with LA warm-up

Elbow wowed a packed house at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles last night (July 22), despite the fact that they lost all of their gear over the Atlantic ocean.

The Mancunian quintet, who will embark on a US tour supporting Coldplay tonight, had a mishap on the way over to California from England.

"It's lovely to be here, but we're a bit jetlagged because none of our gear arrived," frontman Guy Garvey told the audience. "It's somewhere over the Atlantic."

The band didn't let that slow them down and played with borrowed gear. Kicking off their nearly two-hour set with 'Starlings', the first track off their most recent album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, four band members blasted trumpets to great effect.

The audience cheered loudly during quiet points in the songs, and several people repeatedly shouted, "I love you, Guy!"

Backed by two string players, the band seized the opportunity to connect with loyal fans in a more intimate setting than their upcoming stadium shows. Garvey shook the hand of nearly everyone in the front row, and invited two kids up on stage to sing along with him during the rousing crowd-pleaser 'One Day Like This'.
