Elbow drummer Richard Jupp has said that new album sessions with the band are going so well they're hoping to release their next full-length effort this year.
The band are working on new material for the follow-up to their hit 2008 album 'The Seldom Seen Kid', with Jupp saying the five-piece are excited about their new recording sessions.
"We’re rabid for it," he told NME.COM. "The last one was astronomical for us. Using that springboard… I'd love to get the album finished and get it out on the road [before 2010 ends]."
The drummer explained that following sessions prior to Christmas the band are now working on the album full-time. Despite frontman Guy Garvey's recent claims that the band were experimenting with psychedelia and shoegaze, Jupp said fans shouldn't expect too big a departure from the band's sound.
“Let's just say it's [Garvey's comments] inaccurate,” he joked. "It's at an experimental stage. We're loving being back in the studio, it's really exciting. We're just ploughing through it now."
Jupp added that the band's mooted children's album was on the back burner, but they still planned to work on it in the future. "We'll get this one out [first], but it's still there," he said.
Meanwhile, along with Radiohead's Phil Selway, Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and The Police's Stewart Copeland, Jupp has added his support to a campaign striving to keep the peace in Sudan.
The Sudan365 campaign saw each of the drummers appearing in a film that launch last Saturday (January 9). The brainchild of Faithless drummer Jamie Catto, the video features a 'drum beat for peace' that starts in Sudan and is then passed around 15 other countries like a baton.
