Elbow close day two of Latitude 2012

Festival veterans toast friends at Suffolk festival

Elbow brought day two at Latitude 2012 to a close last night (July 14) with a headline set on the main stage.

The Mancunian band, led by a be-suited Guy Garvey, begun their 90 minute set with 'The Bones Of You' before playing tracks from across their 15 year career. "This song is a little outdated but if you know the words, sing along," Garvey told the crowd before 'Leaders Of The Free World', strapping on a guitar.

Later, the band huddled together in the middle of the stage whilst Garvey explained "at this point in the evening we like to find something to celebrate. It's a good excuse to get some drinks." The frontman then made a toast to friends of the band.

Closing on 'One Day Like This', Garvey told the audience before leaving the stage "Latitude, we have gratitude for your platitudes", joining his band in a last sweeping bow.

Earlier in the day, Guy Garvey made another brief appearance on the main stage as he helped wheel Richard Hawley on stage. "Before I left the house, my wife said "good luck, break a leg." She who must be obeyed," joked the Sheffield singer of his injury.

Despite persistent rain, a huge crowd watched as Hawley played tracks like 'Tonight The Streets Are Ours', 'Lady Solitude' and 'Open Up Your Door'.

In the i Arena, meanwhile, London grunge pop group Splashh opened the day whilst Californian newcomers Deap Vally played their second festival set of the weekend after performing at Hard Rock Calling on Friday (July 13).

Latitude continues today with performances from Bat For Lashes, Slow Club, Wild Beasts and Peace.
