Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has revealed that he is working on a solo side project.

However, the singer wasn't keen on referring to the project as such, telling Gigwise: "I don't know what to call it. I don't like the term 'solo project', because it won't be that – I'll be inviting friends to play on it. I'll let the name pick itself as it progresses."

He added that he is working on the new project alongside writing the new Elbow album, commenting: "I'm already working on lyrics for the next Elbow record, but I've also got a little bit of a side project on the go. I don't know what that's going to be. I'm going down to Real World Studios to write some songs and see where it goes. I love being in the honest and even-handed democracy that is Elbow, but I fancy being the boss for a bit, so I'm going to do a side project. It will either be great, and a right laugh, or a disaster, and a right laugh."

Elbow's most recent album, 'The Take Off And Landing Of Everything', was the band's first to reach Number One in the Official Album Charts. The closest the group had previously reached was Number Two with 2011's 'Build A Rocket, Boys!'.

Speaking previously about the release, Garvey stated that the album was largely concerned with getting older and the band's members approaching their forties. "When you're 40, you're all ages at once, because you're thinking of your youth, which has very definitely passed, and about how you became the person you are. You wonder about how the rest of your life plays out from here," Garvey said.

The album was recorded at the band's own Blueprint Studios in Manchester and at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Bath.
