Elton John is to release a new box set featuring five albums from the early 1970s.

The 'Classic Album Selection' box set will include 'Elton John', 'Tumbleweed Connection', 'Madman Across The Water', 'Honky Château' and 'Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player', five albums recorded consecutively between 1970 and 1973. The limited edition box set will be released by Universal Music on July 2.

The 'Elton John' album, originally released in 1970, spawned the singer's first UK hit, 'Your Song', while 1972's 'Honky Château' became his first US Number One album. The final album in the box set, 'Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player', was a Number One in both the UK and US.

The box set includes each original album in its entirety, but does not add any bonus tracks or previously unreleased recordings.

The release of the 'Classic Album Selection' box set coincides with the upcoming Elton Vs. Pnau remix album, 'Goodbye to the Night', due July 16. For the project, the singer granted Australian dance duo Pnau "unfettered access" to the multitracks for his entire discography.

Elton John begins a 25-date summer tour - featuring dates across Europe and North America - at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena tomorrow (June 13).
