Elton John's cancelled summer tour 'triggers £10m insurance payout'

Singer has been forced to scrap 14 dates across Europe after being diagnosed with appendicitis

Elton John's cancelled summer tour 'triggers £10m insurance payout'
Elton John's cancelled summer tour will reportedly trigger an insurance payout approaching £10 million.

Earlier this week (July 9), the singer announced he has been forced to pull all his summer tour dates, including a massive concert in London's Hyde Park due to take place this Friday (July 12), after being diagnosed with appendicitis. Elton has since said he feels "so lucky and so grateful to be alive".

According to The Mirror, the 14 dates across Europe would have seen Elton play to over 200,000 people with some tickets costing more than £100 each. The revenue lost by promoters will now be met by the singer's insurance company.

"Artists have insurance for the promoters' liability. Elton is insured so they get their money back or they can have another concert," a "source" close to the singer is said to have told the newspaper. "It has all been taken care of and will be rescheduled. No promoter will be out of pocket. Elton even spoke to some of the festival promoters to apologise because he has been working with them for so long."

A statement posted on the singer's website on Tuesday (July 9) read: "Sir Elton is currently undergoing a course of intensive antibiotics and is expected to undergo surgery in the UK in the coming weeks, once doctors can be confident they have sufficiently reduced toxins within the inflamed appendicitis site."

The singer is hoping to recover in time for his next run of tour dates in September. He's scheduled to play Leeds Arena on September 4 before his headline slot at Bestival on the Isle Of Wight on September 8.
