Petition calls for return of Kenwood concerts
A campaign has been launched appealing for the return of a series of concerts in London.
The move comes after this year's Kenwood House event was shelved following complaints over noise levels and traffic congestion from local residents.
On average around 60,000 people a year attend the English Heritage backed summer concerts which have previously featured the likes of Elvis Costello, Katie Melua and Art Garfunkel.
Over 4,600 signatures have been gathered so far in a petition which is seeking to bring back the event.
Writing on the official English Heritage website chief executive Simon Thurley said: “The concerts which have been running for 55 years, have given huge pleasure to hundreds of thousands of people. This is a very sad day for Kenwood as well as for all the people who enjoy coming to a beautiful setting to enjoy music on a summer’s evening.
"Not only are the concerts a real highlight in the London calendar but they also provide crucial income for Kenwood House. We are firmly committed to exploring a range of options in the hope that we can bring concerts back to Kenwood in 2008."
