Letterman will step down as host of the long-running US late night talk show in May, and has secured an illustrious list of musical guests to coincide with his final broadcasts. It’ll also stand as Tom Waits’ first live performance in two years.

Letterman has hosted The Late Show on CBS since 1993, prior to that hosting the similarly titled Late Night With David Letterman, which began in 1982. He will be replaced at the helm by Stephen Colbert, who currently presents Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report.

Colbert said of his appointment: “Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead.”
