Eminem says he tries not to pay attention to social media to avoid getting caught up in "ugly arguments".

The rapper was quizzed for one of satellite radio station SiriusXM's 'Town Hall' series of intimate Q&A sessions on November 4. The interview aired the following day and is being rebroadcast throughout the week.

Asked if he is on social media platforms, Eminem jokes: "I am on social media all day. In front of a computer, blogging constantly. Yo, does someone got my laptop?"

He then explains that he tries to avoid social media in order to avoid confrontations. "I really try not to pay attention," he says. "Put it this way, I want to keep my finger on the pulse of what's going on, so I don't want to be ignorant in that sense. But at the same time, I can't pay attention to what everyone is saying. I would never be able to make music, I don't think, if I got caught up in that. Because I would probably get caught up in some ugly arguments with people. 'Yo, drive to my house now.' It would consume a lot of my time and it would be very counter-productive for me to do that. But I still do, and that's what's fucked up."

Eminem is on course to hit Number One in the Official Albums Chart this weekend with 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2', which was released on Monday (November 4).

On Tuesday, Official Chart Company data revealed that Eminem's eighth studio album was already one of the fastest-selling albums of the year, shifting 73,000 copies since it went on sale. Daft Punk’s 'Random Access Memories' is currently 2013’s fastest-selling artist album, shifting more than 165,000 copies during its first week on sale back in May. The final chart will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (November 10).
