Eminem's childhood home was damaged in a fire last night (November 7).

The Detroit Fire Department - via The Detroit News - has said that firefighters were called out to the two-story home in the east side of town at 19946 Dresden at 6:30pm yesterday, but were at the time unaware that it was the rapper's former residence, owned by his mother Deborah Mathers from 1989 until 2003.

The property features on the cover of Eminem's new album 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' which was released earlier this week. It also features on 2000's 'The Marshall Mathers LP', where the rapper is pictured sitting on the steps of the house. The new record features production credits from the likes of Rick Rubin, Dr. Dre and DJ Premier, while recent tracks 'Bezerk' and 'Survival' are also included.

The house is currently owned by the Michigan Land Bank, but recently went up for auction. A fan from Tennessee called Shelly Hazlett has submitted a $100 bid for the property and has said that she will turn the house into an Eminem museum if her offer is approved by the state. The house - one of many abandoned houses in the neighborhood - had a starting bid of $1.
