Eminem to be given Global Icon Award at MTV EMAs

'Berzerk' rapper is also rumoured to perform at the ceremony tonight (November 10) in Amsterdam

Eminem is to be given the Global Icon Award at tonight's (November 10) MTV European Music Awards.

The 'Berzerk' rapper will join a list of previous winners, which includes Queen, Whitney Houston and Bon Jovi. Eminem will be in attendance at the ceremony in Amsterdam and is also rumoured to be performing.

Speaking about the decision to award Slim Shady the award, Bruce Glimer, executive vice president of talent, music programming and events for VIMN (MTV), said: "A lot of thought goes into who could possibly be appropriate. This man has sold over 80 million records. I think everyone agrees, Eminem is one of the most creative and unique artists of our time."

Earlier, it was announced that Glasgow has been chosen as the host city for the 2014 MTV European Music Awards.

The star-studded ceremony will be held at the recently opened Hydro Arena. The announcement was made ahead of tonight's ceremony, which is being held at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, and will include performances from Miley Cyrus, Kings Of Leon and Katy Perry.
