TSUNAMI APPEAL SUCCESS
More than 20,000 snapped up within an hour of going on sale
More than 20,000 tickets for the concert being held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff later month to raise money for the Asian tsunami disaster appeal were snapped up within an hour of going on sale this morning (January 8).
Names confirmed for the January 22 gig – which organisers hope will raise £1million for the appeal – include Eric Clapton, Feeder and Lemar.
Stadium manager Paul Sergeant said music-lovers had been buying tickets for a "truly historic and deserving event."
He added: "We want to raise some money. We have a venue - the largest indoor stadium in Europe - and it's vacant. It's not on the same scale as Live Aid but it's still a monumental event none the less.
"We have acts on the verge of saying yes. I don't want to confirm anyone as a yes until we have a confirmation."
The stadium can hold 65,000 fans.
