Eurythmics' synth-pop classic 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)' has been voted the nation's most misquoted song in a new survey.

Spotify polled over 1,350 British music fans to find out which songs they most commonly hear people singing incorrectly. Some 28 per cent of respondents picked the Eurythmics hit, with many listeners apparently believing that Annie Lennox sings: "Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to disagree?"

The second most misquoted song, with 26 per cent of votes, was Rihanna's 'We Found Love', with some listeners thinking that the singer "found Dove in a soapless place". KD Lang's 'Constant Craving' came in third with 20 per cent of votes, with some music fans hearing "can't stand gravy" instead of "constant craving". Hits by Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Stooshe and Elton John also feature in Spotify's list of the Top 10 most misquoted songs.

Meanwhile, 54 per cent of respondents admitted that hearing someone getting the lyrics wrong is a source of frustration to them, while 35 per cent confessed that they feel very embarrassed when they sing a lyric incorrectly themselves. However, seven per cent of those polled boasted that they never get lyrics wrong.

In addition, two thirds of respondents admitted that they have had arguments with friends over song lyrics and more than half said that they always correct someone when they hear them making a mistake.
