Evanescence regroup with 'American Idol' finalist

Evanescence regroup with 'American Idol' finalist

Three former members of Evanescence have regrouped as new act The Fallen, with singing duties provided by 'American Idol' finalist Carly Smithson.

Dublin-born Smithson came sixth in the seventh series of 'American Idol', in 2008.

Evanescence went on hiatus in 2007 after all the original members, apart from frontwoman Amy Lee, were quit or were fired from the band.

Now former Evanescence guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody, guitarist John Lecompt and drummer Rocky Gray, have formed The Fallen along with bass player Marty O'Brian.

On June 22 the band release a free download of their first track on their website, Wearethefallen.com.

Amy Lee, who still owns the rights to the original band name, is said to be writing new material, though whether it is for a solo project or for Evanescence is unknown.
