The track, which will be the band's first release in four years, is due to appear on their forthcoming self-titled third album, which is due out on October 11.

Speaking to MTV News, singer Amy Lee explained that the song is "about freedom", something she said will be a "constant theme" on the LP.

"I think that, as a band, we're really strong. Everybody's just playing at the top of their game right now, they're just putting it all in and it was, like, that mentality the whole time we were working," she added.

Earlier this year, the vocalist revealed that she took a break from writing for 18 months before "falling back in love with Evanescence again".

The band are working with producer Nick Raskulinecz on the album, the follow-up to 2006's 'The Open Door'. Drummer Will Hunt has said they are taking "some really big risks" on the LP.

Evanescence scored a UK Number One single in 2003 with 'Bring Me To Life'.
