The track is taken from the band's self titled third album, which is set for release on October 17. The album is the band's first for over four years.

'What You Want' continues in the vein that the Arkansas rockers have made their trademark, with a surging guitar riff built around Amy Lee's pseudo operatic vocals.

Evanescence have previously said that their third album is inspired by MGMT and Portishead. The LP which has been produced by Foo Fighters collaborator Nick Raskulinecz. Amy Lee has also said that the album has been inspired by her relationship with the band's fans.

She told Kerrang!:

I can really hear myself singing about my relationship with Evanescence and with the fans. There's always one big relationship on a record that I sing about the most. I feel like my big relationship on this album with Evanescence itself, and with the fans.

Evanescence tour the UK in November, their first for 4 years, which now includes two shows at London's HMV Hammersmith Apollo.
