The frontman of Everything Everything, who stormed into the album charts at number five on Sunday (January 20) with second album 'Arc', says he finds the group's 2012 debut 'Man Alive' difficult to listen to.

"After the 80th listen, I just thought, 'I wish I'd shut up'," Jonathan Higgs told the BBC. "Every song was kind of 'woo-ah-woo' and I got tired of it."

Higgs also described the band's music as "weird" and "off-putting". "On the last tour, I would be looking at a sea of confused faces, of people trying to sing along," he said. "I'd think 'this song means everything to me, and you don't even know what I'm on about'. I wanted people to come and watch us and think, 'yes, I feel that too.'"

Despite Higgs' own misgivings, the fans have spoken, giving the band a solid showing in the charts. "It's ridiculous," said Higgs of the band's Top 5 position. "Look at the rest of the Top 10, it's insane - Calvin Harris and Rihanna! It's the real Top 10, isn't it?"

Last week, Higgs told NME: "The thing about charting is that only a certain demographic tend to be the ones that buy again and again, and it's the middle-aged men and young girls. It means that the charts always have a certain sort of flavour to them which doesn't really necessarily reflect who's actually listening or who enjoys what. It does seem like with Alt-J and Django Django, the last six months have been good for more intelligent bands, but charts are always full of the same kind of thing, regardless of what's going on. You can make a wave without selling stuff."

Everything Everything will embark on a UK tour in support of 'Arc' next month, including an NME Awards show at London's Heaven on the 13th. The band will play:

Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms (February 6)
Brighton Concorde 2 (7)
