Angelina Jolie honoured for acting and charity work at Sarajevo Film Festival

Hollywood star attends Bosnian event with partner Brad Pitt

A tearful Angelina Jolie has been honoured for her acting and charity work at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

The Wanted star attended the Bosnian event with partner Brad Pitt yesterday (July 30) and received a standing ovation after receiving the Heart Of Sarajevo award.

Organisers gave the gong to the 36-year-old in recognition of her “active engagement in the complexities of the real world”, reports BBC News.

“I told Brad in the car I was afraid I was going to cry,” Jolie told the crowd as she collected the award.

Her forthcoming forthcoming directorial debut, In The Land Of Blood And Honey, is set in the 1992-1995 Bosnian War.

However, filming on the project, which tells the story of a love affair between a Bosnian Muslim woman and a Serb on opposite sides of the conflict, has not gone entirely smoothly.

A licence to film in Sarajevo was initially revoked over local rumours that it featured a rape victim who fell in love with her assailant.

The licence was given back when producers disproved the rumour, with Jolie commenting that people should “hold judgement until they have seen the film”.

In The Land Of Blood And Honey is due for release on December 23.
