‘Bad Teacher’ sequel officially in the works

It's being developed for Cameron Diaz to star in, but the actress hasn't signed a deal yet

Bad Teacher 2 is officially in development, Columbia Pictures has announced.

Jake Kasdan has signed on to direct a sequel to his R-rated 2011 comedy, which starred Cameron Diaz as a pot-smoking schoolmistress who tries to woo a wealthy colleague played by Justin Timberlake. Bad Teacher 2 is being developed for Diaz to star in, but the actress has yet to sign a deal.

The original Bad Teacher had a script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, who cut their teeth on the US version of The Office, but the sequel will be penned by up-and-coming screenwriter Justin Malen.

“We love Justin’s take on the material,” Columbia’s president of production Hannah Minghella said in a statement. “It hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.”

Meanwhile, a Bad Teacher TV sitcom is filming now and will premiere on US network CBS this autumn. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch the trailer for the original Bad Teacher film.
