Blockbuster superhero movie set for release in March 2016
A new trailer has been released for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which the two eponymous superheroes are seen joining forces with Wonder Woman.
In the clip (see below) Ben Affleck’s Batman is seen fighting his rival Superman (Henry Cavill) – what is described as “the greatest gladiator match in the world” – before they team up against villain Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg.
The pair are then led by Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) into battle. “Is she with you?” asks Superman, to which Batman replies: “I thought she was with you”.
Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is set to open in cinemas worldwide on March 25, 2016. Director Zack Snyder recently revealed that the beginning of the film is weighted more heavily towards Ben Affleck’s Batman than Henry Cavill’s Superman, but “evens back out” as the narrative progresses.
Meanwhile, Cavill recently confirmed that the film isn’t conceived as a sequel to 2013’s Superman reboot Man Of Steel, but is “more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel“.
The superhero mash-up movie also stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Holly Hunter as a US Senator, Laurence Fishburne as newspaper editor Perry White and Diane Lane as Superman’s adoptive mother Martha Kent.
It has recently been reported that Affleck is to direct, co-write and star in a stand-alone Batman film set for release at some point in 2018.
