The new project adapts Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns'
The voice cast for new animation Batman: The Dark Knight Returns has been confirmed.
Warners and DC have announced plans to adapt Frank Miller‘s seminal comic series as two animated features under the DC Comics Premiere Movie brand. It will be released on DVD this autumn, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
RoboCop star Peter Weller will play Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter will voice Robin. Also in the cast are David Selby, Wade Williams and Michael McKean.
Jay Oliva, who storyboarded Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Superman movie Man Of Steel and directed sequences of Warners and DC’s animated feature Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, is directing. Bob Goodman, a writer on Syfy’s Warehouse 13 and a veteran of many DC cartoons, penned the script.
From 1986, The Dark Knight Returns tells the story of a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne who comes out of retirement to fight crime, only to face opposition from the Gotham City police force and the United States government. Batman’s return causes The Joker to escape from Arkham Asylum, and the story also features iconic foe Harvey ‘Two-Face’ Dent.
