‘Beauty and the Beast’ teaser trailer beats ‘Star Wars’ for most views in first day

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, which stars Emma Watson as Belle, has beaten Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the amount of first day views.

Beauty and the Beast is expected to open in cinemas on March 17, 2017, following recent live-action adaptations like The Jungle Book, Cinderella and Maleficent.

The first teaser trailer for the film was released on Monday (May 23), watched a record 91.8 million times in the first 24 hours. The first teaser trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens were watched 55 million and 88 million times in their first respective 24 hours.

Alongside Watson, Beauty and the Beast will also star Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor and Emma Thompson. Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) will direct the film, the screenplay of which was written by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower).
