Awards veteran steps in after Eddie Murphy drops out

It seems Billy Crystal is replacing Eddie Murphy as the host for next year’s Oscars.

The veteran Academy Awards host tweeted: “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.”

Bowfinger star Murphy backed out from hosting the show on November 9 after friend and ceremony producer Brett Ratner resigned from his post after making a homophobic slur at a film screening.

This will be Crystal’s ninth time hosting the Oscars, although no official confirmation by the Academy Awards or Crystal’s representatives has been made.
