Bradley Cooper wants to play Lance Armstrong in biopic

JJ Abrams is planning to make a movie about the disgraced cyclist

Bradley Cooper has admitted that he wants to play Lance Armstrong in a biopic about the disgraced cyclist.

Earlier this month (January 2013), it was revealed that JJ Abrams is planning to turn Armstrong’s rollercoaster story into a movie. The director’s company Bad Robot has purchased the screen rights to Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Armstrong, an upcoming book by sports reporter Juliet Macur.

Now Cooper has put himself forward to play Armstrong. When asked about the role by the BBC, the actor replied: “I would be interested in that. I think he’s fascinating. What a fascinating character.”

Continuing, Cooper admitted that he was interested in the role even before Armstrong’s recent doping scandal. He recalled: “I remember Matt Damon was going to do his autobiography at one point years ago. I remember thinking, that would be a great character, I’d love to play that character. I would love to do something, I think he’s pretty fascinating.”

Other actors linked to the Armstrong biopic include Michael Fassbender, Jake Gyllenhaal and Christian Bale. Meanwhile, Cooper will compete for the Best Actor gong at this year’s Oscars, which take place in LA on February 24.
