Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson are shooting the sequel now for an April 2014 release

The first plot details for Captain America 2 have been revealed.

Marvel Studios announced yesterday (April 8) that co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo have just started shooting the sequel, whose full title is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers aka Captain America, joined by Scarlett Johansson‘s catsuit-clad Black Widow.

Marvel also released a brief plot synopsis for the movie, which reads: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, DC”.

Meanwhile, Samuel L Jackson is returning as Nick Fury and screen legend Robert Redford has signed on to play a senior SHIELD leader. The film’s strong ensemble cast also includes Sebastian Stan and Hayley Atwell, who appeared in the first film, and new recruits Emily VanCamp and Anthony Mackie.

Marvel has given Captain America 2 a release date of April 2, 2014 – after the next Iron Man and Thor movies, but before The Avengers 2, which is due to arrive in May 2015. The first Captain America film came out in July 2011 and went on to gross over $368 million (£241 million) at the box office worldwide.
