Channing Tatum says Gambit role will ‘change the superhero movie’

Actor says X-Men character is "not your typical hero"

Channing Tatum has said that his rumoured role as X-Men character Gambit is likely to begin with a stand-alone title that he hopes will “change the superhero movie.

As previously reported, X-Men: Days of Future Past producer Lauren Shuler Donner strongly suggested that Tatum will appear in the role for future movies, saying “He’s a rogue, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau.”

Speaking to MTV, Tatum elaborated on her comments, saying: “We’ve talked about it being a standalone, first and actually trying to change the ‘hero, superhero movie.’ Because Gambit is not your typical hero.”

“He’s a thief,” he continues. “He walks on the grey. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones.”

However, Tatum still did not confirm that he has signed on to star in any films, adding: “Obviously, there’s nothing written… there’s only conversations and dreams, really, right now.”
