The actor wants to play Christian Grey, but only if his wife co-stars as Anastasia Steele
Channing Tatum has revealed that he is keen to star in Fifty Shades Of Grey – but only if his wife appears alongside him.
Tatum met actress Jenna Dewan while they were shooting dance movie Step Up in 2006 and they married three years later. Now Tatum has suggested that they could channel their sexual chemistry into the film version of the notorious erotic novel.
The screen rights to Fifty Shades Of Grey – which traces the sexual relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and businessman Christian Grey – have been acquired by Universal Pictures and Focus Features. Earlier this week (July 11), it was revealed that the movie will be produced by Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti, who previously worked together on The Social Network.
The film has yet to be cast, but Lost actor Ian Somerhalder and teen stars Ashley Benson and Lucy Hale have previously been attached to roles. Now Tatum has presented himself and Dewan as potential leads. When asked during a Twitter Q&A with Glamour readers whether he would be interested in playing Christian Grey, he replied: “1) Yes. 2) [But] I’d only be allowed if my wife was Ana. She’s read the books so I don’t think she’d be impressed if she couldn’t be Ana!”
Since being published last year, Fifty Shades Of Grey has become notorious for its explicit sexual content and controversial portrayal of a relationship involving BDSM. The three novels by British author E.L. James have now sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
