Long-planned superhero movie is due for release in 2017
Chris Pine is to co-star opposite Gal Gadot in Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman movie.
The Star Trek actor was first linked to the role of Steve Trevor, love interest of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, back in May. Now the actor is understood to have officially signed up for the part.
Pine’s Steve Trevor will be “no mere love interest” and have “plenty of action to keep him busy”, TheWrap reports.
The Wonder Woman movie has been in the works for close to two decades, with several stops and starts over the years, and Joss Whedon attached to direct at one point. Monster‘s Patty Jenkins is now set to direct after Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren dropped out earlier this year.
Gadot, best known for her role as Gisele in The Fast And The Furious film series, is set to make her debut as Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Warner Bros.’ standalone Wonder Woman movie is due for release the following year.
Wonder Woman, a warrior princess of the Amazons, made her DC Comics debut in 1941 and was famously played by Lynda Carter, a former Miss World USA, in a popular US TV series that ran from 1975 to 1979. An unseen pilot for a TV reboot was shot in 2011 but NBC decided not to order a full series.
