Chris Rock riffs on his comedy career in first trailer for ‘Top Five’ – watch

The comedy is co-produced by Kanye West and Jay Z featuring music by Questlove

Chris Rock writes, directs and stars in a loosely fictionalised comedy based on his own career. The first trailer for Top Five has been released online.

Kanye West and Jay Z co-produced the film, which features Rock as fictional comedian Andre Allen, with Questlove of The Roots acting as executive music producer.

The synopsis for Top Five has revealed the film,”tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront both the career that made him famous and the life he left behind”. Allen questions his life choices that include a bizarre marriage to a reality TV star and a movie career in the action comedy franchise Hammy the Bear.

The film features cameos from many famous faces including Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Jay Pharoah, Anders Holm and Michael Che.

Top Five premiered last month at the Toronto Intenational Film Festival last month. It received positive reviews and was the subject of a bidding war between studios eager to distribute the film. Paramount won the rights to the film for $12.5m.

Top Five is released in the UK January 16. Watch the trailer for below.
