He joins Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in 'Bad Boys For Life' next year

DJ Khaled has joined the cast of the latest instalment in the Bad Boys film franchise, in an as-yet-unspecified role.

Bad Boys For Life, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, is due to appear in cinemas in January 2020. It marks a long-awaited third film in the franchise and comes 17 years after Bad Boys II.

Along with Khaled, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, and Jacob Scipio will appear alongside the original stars.

According to Variety, “The story revolves around a modern, highly specialized police unit that collides with the old school Bad Boys (Smith and Lawrence) when a new threat emerges in Miami.”

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing the film, with a script by Peter Craig, responsible for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ and ‘Transformers’.

The third instalment of Bad Boys was confirmed by co-stars Smith and Martin Lawrence in a video on Smith’s social media in November.

“I’m telling y’all…this is crazy, wait, wait, just wait..it’s official!” Smith yells in the video with Lawrence by his side.

The news follows years of rumours, confirmations, and delays. Bad Boys II, the second film in the franchise, was released 15 years ago. Conversations about its follow-up were instigated as far back as that period.

Then, in 2015, Sony confirmed that Bad Boys III, as it was initially titled, was set for a February 2017 release. In 2016, the date was shifted forward again to January 2018.
