Film will Mary Shelley's classic horror story through the eyes of hunchbacked assistant Igor

Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay has landed the female lead in the forthcoming Frankenstein film from Sherlock director Paul McGuigan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will play a trapeze artist who is saved by Doctor Frankenstein’s assistant Igor after an accident and ends up bonding with the hunchbacked helper.

Daniel Radcliffe will star as Igor opposite James McAvoy as Doctor Frankenstein. The film has a script by Chronicle writer Max Landis and is said to offer a “revisionist” take on Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel, telling the story through the eyes of Igor.

McGuigan, whose big screen directing credits include Lucky Number Slevin and The Reckoning, is hoping to start shooting this autumn (2013) in London and Scotland.

Brown Findlay, 23, played kind-hearted aristocrat Lady Sybil in 20 episodes of Downton Abbey before her character was written out last year (2012). As well as Frankenstein, her forthcoming film appearances include A Winter’s Tale, a supernatural drama starring Russell Crowe and Colin Farrell, and Lullaby, a family drama whose cast includes Amy Adams, Garrett Hedlund and Jennifer Hudson.
