"A full circle journey," says the actor
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it has been announced.
The pro-wrestler-turned-actor will be honoured in the motion picture category for his status as global blockbuster heavyweight.
This year, Johnson has appeared in Baywatch and the latest in the huge Fast and Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious. Previously, he’s taken on roles in The Scorpion King, Hercules, The Mummy Returns and Snitch.
Taking to Twitter, Johnson said of the news: “A true true honor. What a full circle journey. So grateful and so many people to thank. See everyone there! Tequila on me.”
Producer of Walk of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez commented: “Not only does Dwayne have a great personality and talent, but he also does a great amount of philanthropic work which is part of the criteria for earning an immortal spot on the Walk of Fame.
“We envision scores of photos being taken at his star by his fans.”
The official ceremony takes place on December 13.
On December 20, Johnson will hit the big screen once again in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. The sequel to the 1995 fantasy adventure film also stars Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who), Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff and Morgan Turner.
Insiders have claimed that the plot will see members of the squad having to track down a weapon of mass destruction – which will introduce Johnson as Black Adam, the enemy of DC superhero Shazam.
Johnson also hinted at a “really cool surprise” for Black Adam back in May, in terms of when and where the character will be introduced.
