Earlier this week, Baby Driver was announced as the winner of Best Film supported by Zig-Zag at the VO5 NME Awards 2018.
As he accepted the award via video message, Edgar Wright wielded a banana and explained how the inspiration for the film had initially come to him at a tube station.
The video also featured an unlikely cameo from Beck, who appeared in the background.
Released last summer, the Edgar Wright-directed movie stars Ansel Elgort as Baby, a getaway driver forced to do a creepy crime boss’s dirty work. It won acclaim for its soundtrack, which featured the likes of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Queen, and Adam & Dave.
In December, Wright revealed that talks are “already in the works” for Baby Driver 2 and that “the deal is being hammered out as we speak”.
“Hopefully, I’m going to at least write a second one,” he added. “I’ve definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it’s the next movie, I don’t know. I’m just working that out at the moment, actually. I have a couple of things that I’ve been developing, and also a couple of new ideas that I had, and all the nice things that I’ve been offered since”.
Wright also said that he’s keen to start work on his next project as soon as possible: “I would like to get back on the saddle very shortly, because – slightly beyond my control – but there was four years between The World’s End and Baby Driver. I don’t want it to be that long again. I would love to have a film out in the next two years”.
