Eric Bana cast as Elvis Presley in ‘Elvis & Nixon’

The film portrays the real life meeting between the pair

Eric Bana has been cast as Elvis Presley in a forthcoming film, it has emerged.

The Hulk actor will play the rock’n’roll legend opposite Danny Huston, who plays former president Richard Nixon. Elvis & Nixon will portray the real-life meeting between the two historical figures in 1970.

The film will be directed by Carey Elwes, star of The Princess Bride and Saw in what will be his first time in the chair, according to Variety.

Elwes was driven to make the film after reading about the meeting between the singer and the president, which took place after Nixon received a six-page letter from Elvis asking for an audience. He asked to be make a ‘Federal Agent-at-Large’ in the bureau of narcotics and dangerous drugs. When they met in Washington DC in December 1970, Elvis brought with him family photos and a Colt 45 pistol as gifts for Nixon.

Elwes plans to shoot in Los Angeles and Shreveport, Louisiana, although no date has yet been set for the start of production. The disgraced US president was last portrayed on the big screen by Frank Langella in Ron Howard‘s Frost/Nixon.
