A 30-second teaser was shown during the Super Bowl yesterday (February 3), but this trailer is over 90 seconds in length. In a clever use of footage from the film, it begins with Robert Downey Jr deadpanning: “This might have been extensive rather than extended.” Then the action kicks off, including a spectacular aerial sequence.

Iron Man 3 will be Downey Jr’s fourth outing as Tony Stark, a billionaire inventor who creates a powered suit of armour and turns himself into a superhero. The actor previously played Stark in 2008’s Iron Man, 2010’s Iron Man 2 and last year’s The Avengers.

In the new film, Stark battles a baddie called The Mandarin, played by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley. Marvel released an official plot synopsis back in October (2012) and it teases: “Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle.”

The first Iron Man 3 trailer was also released in October – click here to watch it. The film, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce, opens in UK cinemas on April 26 and arrives in the US on May 3.

Meanwhile, five other movies unveiled new trailers during the Super Bowl yesterday (February 3), including Star Trek Into Darkness and Fast And Furious 6. The annual sporting bash featured an impressive half-time show from Beyonce, who reunited with her Destiny’s Child bandmates during her 12-minute set.
