Producer says film will be an origins story
Details of the forthcoming Fantastic Four reboot have been revealed.
Producer Simon Kinberg has spoken about the comic book film revamp. Speaking to Crave Online, he revealed that the film would be an origins story and promised it would be more “grounded” than the previous films in the series.
Comparing the picture to the previous two films in the franchise, he said: “If I had to say, the tone of it would be somewhere on the spectrum between Spider-Man and Chronicle. The other movies were even further on the spectrum of being goofy and fun than Spider-Man. Raimi’s Spider-Man, yeah, not Amazing Spider-Man.
He added: “[Director] Josh Trank’s instincts are to be as realistic and grounded and real with this stuff as possible. In many ways I would say it’s definitely more of a drama than comedy.”
Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan and Jamie Bell will star in the roles of the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, Mr Fantastic and the Thing in the revamped Fantastic Four. The 2005 film adaptation starred Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis as the superhero team, while Nip/Tuck actor Julian McMahon played Doctor Doom.
As in the comic books, which began in 1961, they gained superpowers after exposure to cosmic rays during a scientific mission in outer space, and the cast returned for 2007 sequel Rise Of The Silver Surfer. The films were widely panned by critics upon release, although they did perform relatively well at the box office.
