First clip from Ryan Gosling’s new movie with ‘Drive’ director appears online – watch

Titled 'Only God Forgives', it stars Gosling as a US criminal running a drugs business in Bangkok

The first clip from Only God Forgives, the new collaboration between Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn, has appeared online. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.

Gosling and Winding Refn previously worked together on Drive, an acclaimed car chase movie that came out in 2011. They teamed up again last year (2012) to shoot Only God Forgives in Thailand.

The film stars Gosling as an American criminal living in exile in Bangkok, where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs business. When his brother is killed for murdering a prostitute, his mother lands in town and orders her son to exact revenge. Kristin Scott Thomas co-stars as the mother.

The teaser clip is only 20 seconds long, but suggests the film is unlikely to be lacking in thrills and spills. Only God Forgives is expected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May (2013).

Gosling and Winding Refn had been due to team up again for a remake of Logan’s Run, the cult 1976 sci-fi flick starring Michael York. However, it was reported back in October (2012) that Gosling had pulled out of the project. The actor’s latest movie Gangster Squad, a drama about mobsters in 1950s LA, opens in UK cinemas this Thursday (January 10).
