First clip from ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ appears online – watch

JJ Abrams' sci-fi sequel opens in UK cinemas on May 9

The first clip from Star Trek Into Darkness has appeared online. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.

The nail-biting teaser finds Zachary Quinto‘s Spock in a sticky situation that is about to reach boiling point. This hands Captain Kirk, played by Chris Pine, an unenviable dilemma.

The clip also features glimpses of Simon Pegg’s Scotty, John Cho’s Hikaru and Zoe Saldana’s Nyota. However, there is no sign of the film’s mysterious villain, who is played by Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch.

Speaking back in December, director JJ Abrams shed some light on Cumberbatch’s baddie, saying: “His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average. That is what makes him so scary – he is just an average guy who works in an organisation called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda.”

Star Trek Into Darkness is Abrams’ sequel to his 2009 reboot Star Trek, which was a hit with critics and sci-fi fans alike. It arrives in UK cinemas on May 9.
