The two-minute teaser packs in plenty of thrills and spills and ends with Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor apparently asking for help from Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki, who was recently voted best villain at the MTV Movie Awards.
Thor: The Dark World is the sequel to 2011’s Thor, a box office smash which grossed a shade under $450 million (£295 million) worldwide. Alongside Hemsworth and Hiddleston, original cast members Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgård have all repreised their roles from the first film.
Meanwhile, former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston has joined the cast and will play a supervillain called Malekith the Accursed. According to the film’s official synopsis, “a vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness” and it falls on Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-wielding hero to stop him.
The first Thor film was helmed by Kenneth Branagh, but Game Of Thrones director Alan Taylor has taken over for the sequel. Thor: The Dark World opens in UK cinemas on November 8 this year.
