Former ‘Doctor Who’ Matt Smith will star in ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’

Ex-Time Lord to start shooting adaptation of Seth Grahame Smith's mash-up novel on September 24

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has joined the cast of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The former Time Lord will star in director Burr Steers’ horror comedy which starts shooting on September 24. The adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smiths mash-up novel has been in development for several years.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith will play parson Mr Collins who, on the lookout for a wife, proposes to the story’s heroine Liz Benett (Lily James).

The comedy take on Jane Austen’s classic novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’ follows Liz who is pressued by her family to marry into high society. She rejects the stiff morals of Victorian England preferring to defend the countryside against the rising zombie plague.

The film also stars Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston and Sam Riley (Control) and will be released in 2015.

Smith has recently finished shooting Terminator: Genisys with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

He will also appear in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut with Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes. The fantasy thriller Lost River, previously titled How to Catch a Monster, will reach cinemas next year.
