Forthcoming volcano movie also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris and Emily Browning
The first teaser trailer for Pompeii, the forthcoming volcano movie from Resident Evil director Paul WS Anderson, has been released.
The teaser begins with an ominous voiceover intoning “Some prayed for help, many wished for death…” over shots of human bodies fossilised in ash, before giving a quick glimpse of star Kit Harington, who evidently did one or two sit-ups in preparation for the role, and some of the action scenes from the film. Pompeii is set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79 which totally obliterated the ancient Roman city that gives the film its name.
Harington, best known as Game Of Thrones‘ Jon Snow, stars as an enslaved gladiator on a ship heading to Naples who returns to Pompeii to save the woman he loves, played by Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), and his best friend, a gladiator trapped in the city’s coliseum.
The film’s cast also includes Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris, Jessica Lucas and Carrie Anne-Moss. Anderson directed from a script co-written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. Pompeii will open in UK and US cinemas on February 28 next year (2014).
