Armie Hammer trolls DC Comics fans following rumours he will be the next Green Lantern

Actor could assume role in either 'Justice League' or Ben Affleck's 'The Batman'

Armie Hammer has appeared to tease an upcoming announcement that he could be taking on the role of Green Lantern.

The critically panned Green Lantern film was released in 2011, with Ryan Reynolds in the starring role. Following the movie’s underwhelming performance at the box office, actor Mark Strong said he’d be “surprised” if there was a sequel.

But now rumours have suggested that The Social Network actor Hammer will be the next actor to portray the DC Comics superhero in either the upcoming Justice League film or in Ben Affleck’s forthcoming The Batman.

Speculation began when DC Comics artist Brett Booth tweeted that Hammer would be his “pick” for the role and that he had “said that years ago”.

It has also been noted how Hammer was recently followed on Twitter by Geoff Johns, DC’s Chief Creative Officer, and Joe Manganiello, who will star as Deathstroke in Affleck’s The Batman.

Hammer took to Twitter on Sunday (December 4), appearing to make reference to the speculation by tweeting: “Very large announcement coming soon… I… will… be… playing… My old guitar tonight. Found it in a closet and realized how long it’s been.” See those tweets below.

Affleck is set to direct and star in the Batman solo film, which follows on from the recent Batman V Superman blockbuster.

Affeck told the Associated Press: “The movie I think is going to be called The Batman. At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it… That’s about all I got right now. We’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it.”
