Guardians Of The Galaxy writers are penning the first live-action Pokemon movie

Bosses hope Detective Pikachu film will cash in on Pokemon Go

Guardians Of The Galaxy scriptwriters Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch are to write the script for the first live action Pokemon film.

It was revealed earlier this month that film studio Legendary are making a movie based on new game Detective Pikachu, a game which is currently only available in Japan.

The game focuses on Great Detective Pikachu, a character who isn’t as nimble as other Pokemon characters, relying on his intelligence to solve cases. He is helped by schoolboyTim Goodman, the only human capable of understanding Great Detective Pikachu’s language.

Legendary studio bosses say they have put the Detective Pikachu film into fast-tracked production so that filming can start in 2017, though no casting details have yet been announced.

Before teaming up on Guardians Of The Galaxy, Perlman was a writer for Marvel and is co-writing the forthcoming Captain Marvel film, while Hirsch created Disney’s TV series Gravity Falls.

Legendary’s first film was Batman Begins in 2005, while they recently released live-action video game movie Warcraft, directed by Duncan Jones.

Since the release of Pokemon Go, shares in Nintendo have risen by 25%, while Pokemon has sold 21.5 billion cards since it was launched in 1996. Games based on Pokemon have sold 280 million copies.
