‘Harry Potter’ fans turn Platform 9¾ into Alan Rickman memorial

Respects are being paid at London's King's Cross station

A number of Harry Potter fans have paid their respects to late actor Alan Rickman by setting up a makeshift memorial at Platform 9¾ at London’s King’s Cross station.

The fictional platform features in JK Rowling’s Potter books as the magic gateway to the Hogwarts Express. A Platform 9¾ plaque was erected in 1999.

Following Rickman’s death on Thursday (January 14), fans lay flowers and left messages at the site. See in the photos below.

Rickman, best known for his roles as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films and villain Hans Gruber in Die Hard, passed away on Thursday in London.

His death was confirmed by his family. A family statement said: “The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends.”

Following the sad news, the likes of JK Rowling, Stephen Fry and more paid tribute to Rickman.

Over the course of his 30-plus year career, Rickman had won a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
