She'd square up to Cate Blanchett's wicked stepmother in a live-action version of the fairytale
Emma Watson is being lined up to star in Disney’s new live-action Cinderella movie.
According to Variety, the Harry Potter actress is “in very early talks” for the role, which would see her square up against Cate Blanchett‘s ugly stepmother.
Blanchett’s role was rumoured last November and has now been confirmed. Kenneth Branagh (pictured) is set to direct from a script by Chris Weitz, whose previous screenwriting credits include About A Boy, Antz and The Golden Compass.
Several actresses have already been considered for the Cinderella role, including 28 Weeks Later star Imogen Poots and Gabriella Wilde from The Three Musketeers, but Disney was unable to lock down deals with any of them, Variety reports.
Since the Harry Potter franchise came to an end in 2011, Watson has kept herself busy with roles in My Week With Marilyn and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. She will next be seen in Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, a film based on the true story of a clique of LA teenagers who teamed up to rob the homes of celebrities including Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. She also has a role in Noah, the upcoming biblical epic starring Russell Crowe.
