'Star Wars' spin-off starring Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed hits cinemas in December
The final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be attached to new Marvel movie Doctor Strange, Star Wars fans have learned.
According to normally very reliable fan site, Star Wars News Net, a Disney marketing executive in Russia said at a recent presentation event that the film’s final trailer will be shown before screenings of the Benedict Cumberbatch-led superhero movie.
Doctor Strange opens in Russia on October 28, but three days before that on October 25 in the UK. In the US, it hits cinema screens a little later on November 4.
The first of three planned spin-off films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is due for release on December 16. British actress Felicity Jones, who received an Oscar nomination for her performance opposite Eddie Redmayne in Theory Of Everything, stars as a mercenary called Jyn Erso.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story also stars Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. It has recently been revealed that the film will end 10 minutes before the original 1977 movie Star Wars: A New Hope begins.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first in Disney’s “Anthology Series” of spin-off films that will continue with the currently untitled Han Solo prequel movie due in 2018. It was announced in July that rising star Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as a younger version of the character made famous by Harrison Ford. A third Anthology Series film will follow in 2020, Disney confirmed earlier this month.
In May, it was reported that Disney had ordered weeks of costly reshoots on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood” as right now Rogue One has the “feel of a war movie”.
