She played love interest Peggy Carter in the first film
Hayley Atwell will not be returning for the second Captain America movie.
The British actress, recently seen on BBC drama Restless, played love interest Peggy Carter in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. However, she has confirmed in an interview with Time Out that she will not be reprising her role in the sequel.
Back in October (2012), it was reported that Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay – Lady Sybil in the ITV series – is in contention to play a new love interest for Captain America. She is said to be vying with several other actresses, including Mad Men‘s Alison Brie and Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke.
The new movie, titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is scheduled to begin filming in March for an April 2014 release. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers aka Captain America alongside Sebastian Stan as Bucky and Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury.
Meanwhile, The Hurt Locker star Anthony Mackie has joined the cast as a fellow superhero called The Falcon. Speaking back in September (2012), Evans revealed that the sequel will shed further light on his character by including scenes cut from last year’s The Avengers.
