Ice Cube and son O’Shea Jackson Jr. ‘in talks’ to star together in LA riots thriller

It's being produced by Will Packer, one of Ice Cube's co-producers on 'Straight Outta Compton'

Following the success of Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube and his son O’Shea Jackson Jr are reportedly in talks to star in an action thriller set against the backdrop of the 1992 LA riots.

Titled April 29, 1992 in reference to the date on which the Los Angeles riots started, the film is being produced by Will Packer, who produced Straight Outta Compton alongside Ice Cube and Dr Dre. O’Shea Jackson Jr, of course, stars as his father in the acclaimed NWA biopic, which topped the US box office over the weekend and opens in UK cinemas on August 28.

April 29, 1992 is being directed by Donovan Marsh, whose previous credits include acclaimed South African film Spud, and shooting is expected to start early next year. Ice Cube would star as an ex-criminal who steps in to protect his son, played by O’Shea Jackson Jr, when a gang of thugs tries to raid his workplace.

Although The Hollywood Reporter says that talks between Ice Cube, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and the film’s makers are now underway, the rapper’s publicist has released a statement cautioning that father and son have yet to make anything official.

The statement reads: “Ice Cube and O’Shea Jackson Jr. have no plans to commit to this project at this time. Any speculations or rumors that suggest that they are confirmed are simply untrue.”
