Idris Elba has shared details about his villain Krall in the upcoming Star Trek movie Star Trek Beyond.

Set the open on July 22, Star Trek Beyond will see the new villain cause havoc on the Enterprise.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Elba said of his character: “What’s interesting about him is that he has a real beef with what the Enterprise stands for. Krall’s a character who’s deeply steeped in hatred — in my opinion, a well-earned hatred — for the Federation.”

He continued, “It felt quite political. There’s a relatability to what’s happening in our world. Not everybody’s happy with what everybody calls the good guys.”

The Beasts of No Nation actor also opened up about the intense make-up preparation for his character. “My day would start at 4:15 in the morning. I’d be in the chair until around 7:30, shoot about 8:30 and then shoto ‘til around 9 at night.”

Summing up Krall as a “predatory” character, Elba concluded, “This is a man with a definite purpose. I say a man, but he’s not a man. Or is he?” Star Trek Beyond also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg. You can watch the trailer below.
